Our Mountain Mayhem 2011

Mountain Mayhem is the largest and the most prestigious 24-hour mountain bike event in the world which has been the inspiration for 24-hour events around the globe. Last year Mountain Mayhem had 2650 competitors and over 15,000 spectators with 45 football pitches of camping, it's a fairly big deal!

We had three teams competing in different categories.  The race started off with a longer than normal 'Le Mans' style 1.5km run, just to spread everyone out!  Once you'd found your bike back in the arena (easy this year, thanks to a big Pearce Cycles flag beside them) you were off for the congested first lap!

The weather usually plays its part and this year was no different, as per the form book the rain arrived on Friday night leaving the track rather spongy in the woods and slippery on the cobbled paths.  Fortunately, other than light showers on the Saturday the weekend remained dry and the course continued to get quicker and less energy sapping the longer the race went on.  In fact most riders had their fastest laps towards the end of the 24 hours.
