Runners v Riders 2009

Each year Ludlow Runners organise the Mortimer Forest Hill Race from Moor Park School at Overton. The race starts at the school and climbs up into Mortimer forest, across the road into Bringewood, before looping back into Mortimer for the finish. It's a tough event, especially with a bike as some of the climbs are so steep they're unrideable! Total distance is 16km with 520m of climbing - not for the unfit amongst us.

Those riders who had pre-ridden the course in the week leading up to the race had reported axle deep mud in places, not good! It should be noted that those riders were also not present on the start line come race day. Fortunately, a few dry days and a heavy frost had hardened most parts of the course and this made for easier going.

It's been a couple of years since the bikers beat the runners, this year was no different with the 1st runner finished in 1hr 11min. Congratulations to Jon Gilbert who headed home first for the bikers.
